I found my garden under a covering of Creeping Charlie, Sir Charles around here. And after I uncovered it I realized gardening is a lot of work, but worth it.
We have already clipped the outside leaves of lettuces and used the shallot greens, now getting thick, in salads, very tasty.
The broccoli is growing strong and tall and I thinned out the beets. I didn’t want to cull because I love beets, and so I replanted them all and now I have a lot of beet plants. Read more...
I am in BC and wondering about changing crops back home, more herbs, less beets??? Hmmmmmm Just kidding, sort of.
Lots of farms, small ones, big ones, mostly cattle, bison, and horses. Then we saw a valley of golden fields, newly cut. I didn't know what it was until we saw some not cut, they were sunflowers, dried, and as far as our eyes could see. WOW!
Now we are seeing fields being newly cultivated, as far as the eye can see, for marijuana, only for medicinal purposes. It is changing the landscape in rural Canada and creating a new rural economy, and new greenhouse operations. Now that's very nice for those needing marijuana's medicinal value.
My beets just popped through the soil in the greenhouse. And the sunflowers planted in the ground just came up, too. I am hoping the beets don't get too gangley before I plant them.
I also have a Lady Slipper that just came up. I love spring.
I invited my husband to join in on my garden plot, for his artist eye, and so it has been redesigned. He moved the gates from the middle of the ends to the corner of the ends. And I went back to my computer drawing and redesigned the whole thing. I think I am ready to print. This weekend we have a blizzard planned, but next week looks to be promising good weather, so I am renting that roto tiller next weekend. Nice videos El Dragon.
Okay, here is what I've done in my garden so far. I've drawn it on my computer and layed out a plan about where things should go relative to sun and slope of my yard. I've been turning my compost and planning when to start seeds and when to rent a roto tiller. And tonight I wanted to see it, I just had to, so I put stakes in the ground and ran twine around the perimeter. I like it so far. I like it a lot. The birdbath that sits in the middle of my backyard will be outside the garden, but the stone compass that it sits on will be half in half out out the garden. This is so cool.
So, I thought I would post a recipe, not goodies, but brussels sprouts. And here's a question for blogging; do you need to know how to spell? Back to Brussels Sprouts for the person who says they HATE brussels sprouts.... Read more...
