Dole drops suit against “Bananas” documentary

This just in from indieWIRE:

“Dole Food Company, Inc. has announced that it is dismissing its defamation lawsuit against filmmakers Fredrik Gertten, Margarete Jangard and WG Film AB in the Los Angeles Superior Court, relating to the film ‘Bananas!*.’”

This is great news.  As you may remember from previous posts, Dole was trying to stop the release of “Bananas,” which details Nicaraguan the farm workers’ campaign against the company for using banned pesticides that cause sterility.  More about the lawsuit here.

Think you could get the documentary here, dude?

Now if we could only get one of Dole’s competitors to sponsor the screening.  Ideally a 100% Fair Trade worker cooperative…

it’s probably because they are fair trade now and the “new” Dole wants the world to see how truly horrible the “old” Dole was.

The “new” Dole recognizes “old” Dole as persona non grata and the “Bananas!” film now acts a a vessel through which self flagellation can be carried out.

Perhaps their fair trade buddy Sam’s Club will now support workplace democracy as well.

Culminating in a bitter cold after hell hath frozen over.

So what are you saying? Can we trust the Transfair Fair Trade label?
