The video-propaganda below comes to us courtesy the CRA, that is, the Corn Refiners Association (which they cop to, briefly, at the :26 mark in very faded text). The parody video on the jump page, comes courtesy of El Dragón spending too much time on YouTube.
But let’s address the CRA hack job first.
The problem with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), Marge? It’s not that it’s in just that one little pitcher of kiddy drinks. The problem is that it’s absolutely every where else! If you eat fast food, junk food, or convenience food of any kind, chances are, you’re getting a heavy-duty dose of this sweetener — and certainly more sweetener than your body can really handle. This relentless over-consumption of HFCS is the problem, and it’s probably linked to the obesity epidemic in America. Says Dr. Andrew Weil:
HFCS contains 14 percent fructose, much more than regular corn syrup, and I am concerned about its potentially disruptive effects on metabolism. The body does not utilize fructose well, and never before in history have people been consuming so much of it. HFCS may promote weight gain because it behaves in the body more like fat than glucose, the blood sugar derived from other sweet foods.
Anyway. I probably don’t have to convince Food Fighters of this. Really, what’s amazing to me is that the CRA feels the need to issue propaganda — and to slip it on YouTube of all places. I mean, isn’t it enough that people get HFCS in their damn hamburger buns and bread?? This transparent piece of propaganda video points to a level of sophistication borne out of fear and desperation, right? I mean, unless they were freaked out that America was turning on HFCS like a pack of sugar-addled dogs, why would a fuddy-duddy trade group representing corn refineries take the time to figure out what YouTube even is?
Luckily, we can count on YouTube Nation to smell b.s. when it wafts their way. You wanna pretend you’re down with the hipsters and their "New Media," corn refiners?
No. Trust me. No. You really don’t.
